What is CasparCG?
A quote from casparcg.com:

CasparCG Server is a Windows and Linux software used to play out professional graphics, audio and video to multiple outputs as a layer based real-time compositor. It has been in 24/7 broadcast production since 2006. And the best, it’s free. Used by most broadcasters in Europe.

It is open-source and mainly developed by SVT, Swedish public service.

CasparCG uses FFMpeg internally and can play & record in many video encodings.
It can output video to BlackMagic Decklink cards, Bluefish cards, NDI, computer screens and some others.
It can also take video as input, transform (rotate, scale, color correct etc) and play it out, or record it to disk.

Explain about the server/client and how it works

The official stable version of CasparCG is currently 2.0.7. There is a beta (2.1) available, and version 2.2 is currently in development.
