Hi, I got a problem with a videofile iam playing throw CasparCG via Bitfocus Companion. When the video ends, I get at error message in the log and does not loop as i have set it up in Companion. see attchment, iam not that very good at videocreation problem or casparcg. i so can have the videofile fixed. i think that there is the problem.
Have you tried to leave away the AUTO
parameter? As LOOP
and AUTO
together do not make much sense.
Otherwise, would you be able to re-encode the file to some other format? It looks to me, that there is something wrong with that clip.
hi, thanks for the ansewer, i thought so too that is a problem with the file, cause i have removed loop function in companion also. and i got the same problem still. Thanks for the ansewer so far. /M
Hi!
Can you provide an example video file that fails for you?
Also your Caspar version is quite old, try using the latest version and see if the issue prevails?
Hi, sorry for late response, but i will attach the file here. also iam making the switch to serverversion 2.4.1 but i need help with the configfile. so i can get that working without any problem. so if there is someone who can help me, let me know.
Link for the file:
What scan format does your CasparCG channel use?
I ask becuse there are multiple source file formats shown in your screen capture, and you may be asking CasparCG to do a lot of standards conversion as part of the file play.
The first file reference (file name “Intro 2425.mp4”) shows as a 1920 by 1080 25 frames per second progressive format. The next file in the lists (“KLIPP\SPONSORER 24-25…”) is 1920 by 900 using interlaced scanning at 59.94 fromaes per second. I’m not sure what server 2.0.7 makes of the source file that is not at broadcast scan sizes. Equally I don’t understand how the end detect works to do a loop when the frame rate may be being interpolated.
Hi, thanks for replying, i think this is what you are asking for?
1080p2500
It is broadcasted but ends early and i need to restart the file again.
So i think i should tell about the setup i am using for this project, i have caspar to present videofiles on a lagre screen in a stadium(indoorsport), there is fetaure to that screen that you sizeit up as ju want. diffrent layouts sort of speak. so i have a diffrent size for the intro file and smaller screen size when the game is on(with a scoreboard underneath). that why they are difftrent, also that when person(iam not the one that create the files) who do the videofiles for me to put in folder for caspar he missed that they were 60 frames/sec, cause they were intended to put on the that screens server. casue we can put material on the server that drives that screen and display an external source on it to.
Also i run all of my control for casparcg from Bitfous Companion.
And iam thinking of change to 2.4.1 version of the server.
/M
Thank you for the overview of how you are using your CasparCG system. That description is very helpful.
I downloaded a copy of your file that causes looping failure. I analysed the file using the free open-source tool called QCTools. The tool is availble from github at https://github.com/bavc/qctools. This program performs in depth analysis of a video file. A key application for the tool is to assure archivists that a file is suitable to be placed in a long term library store.
The good news is there are no detected errors in your “Sponsorer 24-25 stora skarmen.mp4” file. I can see it is 6000 frames long, encoded in H264 and AAC. The encoding in based on blocks of 29 frames (GOP length) with one I frame per GOP and an IBBPBBPBBP style encoding. The final GOP is 26 frames, with the final two frames use predictive (P) coding ensuring all frames are fully decoded.
I used a copy of CasparCG V2.0.7 and told the server to loop play the file in a 1080p2500 screen consumer. It stopped at the end of the first play with the same error messages you show in your posted screen grab.
I ran the loop play test using server versions V2.1.12_NRK, V2.2.0, V2.3.3_LTS and V2.4.0. All four of these looped the file with no warnings or other error reports on the server console display. So we can say there is some incompatibity between the file and server V2.0.7
If any of the development team read this post please note I did spot one slightly odd feature, but this oddity had no impact on replay. Server 2.1.12_NRK displays the frame count when the file loads for playback. This reported a length of 6000 frames, consistent with QCtools. However the scanner process data fetched by CINF reports a length of 6001 frames. I checked the length reports using all five server versions used in my testing - all scanner versions (embedded or stand-alone) reported the length as 6001 frames.
Hi, thank for the indepth analysis, but i saw something about framerate after i posted this. and i contacted my friend and he change the framerate to 25, and i think that solved my problems with the looping. but then a little errorcode developed but that it is still looping so but if someone could help me configure the configfile for 2.4.1 so i can display like iam doing on 2.0.7 that would greatly appreciated, but that is maybe a diffrent thread? /M
The items you have circled in red are information about the inner parts of CasparCG server. Lines containing [info]
are just information for the CasparCG system manager. This text is both shown on the console display and also stored in the CasparCG daily log file. The log files are stored in the folder you configured in the casparcg.congfig <paths> section, <log-files> item. You should occasionally purge the logs directory of old logs, keeping several days, for example 14, “just in case” an issue is not reported immediately and you need to examine the reports from CasparCG.
The line that contains [debug]
is a deeper in the code report. Such reports are normally only enabled when a developer is modifying the code base and is trying to trace the new code flow. The items saved in the log have a default level set in the casparcg.config file in the xml tag <log-level>info</log-level>
. Items are logged if the category matches the set log level or is higher in priority. The supported levels are trace , debug , info , warning , error. So log-level info displays messages with [info]
[warning]
[error]
headers. You can also change the log-level using an AMCP command
LOG LEVEL INFO
Do you use the SVT client to control your CasparCG system? I ask because the client for server 2.0.7 and server 2.1.x does not fully work with server 2.2 and later. If you want to move to server 2.4.1 but still be able to run 2.0.7 to check things the clients must be started by a batch file to ensure they do not use the same database file to store the configuration values. Also, how many outputs does your CasparCG produce, and are all outputs via a decklink card?
Hi, aha thanks, then i just can ignore it for now.
just now i don´t use the client version of caspar to control the caspar server, using bitfous´s companion for all control/showing content from the caspar server.
I used the client for like backup but that it. i don´t want to bundle in 2.0.7 in 2.4.1, just so i can switch totally to 2.4.1, i want o upgrade but i want to display on one external screen, as of that i just to do with 2.0.7.
there is a decklink and one screen, so one channel? right now i think it is one output.is it possible to add custom resolution so i can change myself(saw something like that in the configfile for 2.4.1)?
All i want is to display the consumerscreen on a external screen(also if wanna choose with one it is on) in version 2.4.1, so i can replace serverversion 2.0.7 all together.
this is config that iam have right now:
I assume you have checked the hardware you are using matches the requirements for version 2.4.x Windows server:
Operating system: Windows 10 (Pro). Also works with Windows 11 (Pro)
Graphics Card has OpenGL version 4.5 or later.
You can create your own custom resolution, but of course the Decklink
card can only output standard broadcast sizes and scan rates. Part of the decklink configuration allows you to output a sub-region of the total CasparCG channel onto a decklink channel. You can also create a layout that uses multiple decklink channels on a single card (eg Duo 2), each decklink channel outputting a different section of the CasparCG channel.
The screen consumer has extra controls, relative to server 2.0.7, allowing you to place the content at exact positions on the assigned screen number.
I assume you are not using audio during playback. If you do, the audio output is now 16-channels embedded, passed though without processing. If you need audio channel mapping this must be done using an ffmpeg audio filter invoked as part of the AMCP PLAY command.
The configuration below is a best estimate of a server 2.4 configuration that has the same functionality as your V2.0.7

The other important part to servers starting with V2.2 is the media scanning to create thumbnail images has moved from the server code base to a stan-alone code block. The server communicates with the scanner via localhost networking on (by default) port 8000. If your host PC already has an application on port 8000 you have to edit the port number in the configuration <amcp> section, and set the scanner to use a command line switch to tell it the port number to listen for server requests.
The scanner should be started before the server, and there is a batch file in the distribution that starts the applictions in the required order.
Hi, thanks for the code, works fine, as you mentioned about media scanner, idownloaded it see if it clears my errorcode regarding that. and i get sound the clips i have in my files so that is ok, i think you are talking about adding an external source? But agian, thanks for the help so far./Mattias
Pleased to hear you have V2.4 up and running.
The problem file was without audio, so I was not sure if you were using audio playback with other clips. I was trying (and clearly failed!!) to highlight that the audio output in V2.0.7 allowed you to create your own mixdown of channels, but that V2.4 does not have this configuration option.
Hi, no problem, i think i was not that descriptive as well. I have files for my project that contains sound. Also playing mp3file with a soundless videofile together in a group. So is there anything i need to add codewise or something to do? Or is just play as it is? /Mattias
Unless you have surround sound audio files that you want to play in stereo - just play as is.
Hi, i got a follow up question, when you increase the framerate in the videomode as ex 1080p6000, where is the performance hits? is it cpu or gpu or ram? also if i change the videomode to 1080p6000, is it gonna play files that are 2500 correctly or does the videofiles still be as 60 frames/sec? /M
One of the major hits is on data transfers to and from the GPU. Everything goes there for layer mixing - even if there are no actual mixing operations in use. The frame buffers are re-cycled by a relevant method. The video data sits in them for a bit less time thats all.
I have a simple Intel NUC i7 with integrated Intel 655 (I think) graphics that I use for various investigations and template design at home. Works fine as 1080i5000, and 1080i600 and 10880p25, but lots of audio and video issues when I set 1080p5000. The link to the Thunderbolt connected Decklink is fine using Media Express up to 2160p25, so I know the bottleneck is in the Caspar routing.
When I advise on hardware for a production application we always select a desktop case PC and high end graphics card with the decklink cards directly in the PCIe bus.
It depends on your definition of correct playback of 1080p25 on 1080p60. The playback will produce an output but it may have some slight motion judders as it invents missing frame. High quality conversion needs at least 4 frames in the blending system which uses a sin(x)/x temporal filter function.
Much better to use an offline convert process which allows you to tune the convert quality, and simplifies operations in the Caspar. Lots of convert options including ffmpeg (free), via DaVinci Resolve editor (free version), via Apple Compressor (commercial) if you have access to a modern Apple System. There are software converters that cost several hundred Euros.
Hi, i got a new issue with the server version, the sound from both an mp3-file and videofile i get like 1 sec delay on the sound after i start the file through bitfocus, also i have big errorcode for decklink(dont know how to correct this, also wonder if that is the problem?), i have tried using the old serverversion(2.0.7, also with bitfocus) and i don´t get that issue.
