CasparCG New Features I Find Interesting

Well, I am discovering or rediscovering CasparCG after using vMix and its limited XAML (GT Title Designer) for some time. In vMix, to create certain animations, I had to export them as image sequences from After Effects, which resulted in several folders. Now I see the possibilities of HTML, which is currently used by major broadcasters. However, some features of the server or client seem limited to me. Some things like:

  1. Adding a timer: In vMix, you just need to select the text, and it runs a timer. I think this could be implemented.
  2. Importing a table and constantly updating its data, in addition to being able to place data from a cell into a layer.

Among other details, I don’t know. Just an opinion.

In Caspar it’s not that easy, but most users do not use timer that regularly, that a special server component would make sense. Caspar supports the idea of having templates crafted beforehand. Most shows cange their design every 5 years or so. Only then it’s necessary to do a new set of templates. And a counter/timer template can easy be created.

That also depends on the workflow. I regularly do elections and voting (in Switzerland we vote 4 times a year). But I usually write a special client software, that handles the data import and formatting and send it to Caspar as normal data using a CG ADD command with XML or JSON. That lightens the burden for the template and makes it easy to do any data extraction etc.
