Best practices for playout file format?

We’re running CasparCG 2.0.7 on Windows 10. Here’s our hardware:

  • Intel i5-7500 3.4 GHz
  • 8 GB RAM
  • SSD Samsung 970 pro - 1TB PCIe NVMe
  • BMD DeckLink Duo 2

We use CasparCG to play up to two simultaneous videos: one regular video, and a second video with alpha as key/fill outputs. Video format is 1080 29.97 PsF.

Our in-house standard is ProRes 422HQ, but we’ve had some video skips and pauses during playout. My understanding from other threads is that ProRes doesn’t work well with CasparCG on Windows.

Does anyone have a recommendation of a high-quality format that might play out without pauses, or any system changes we might want to consider to help address the issue?
