Audio issue

I have two CasparCG machines running in production with the following configuration:

  • Ubuntu 22.04
  • CasparCG 2.4.3
  • DeckLink driver version 15

These machines ran for eight months without any issues. Now, roughly every other day, the DeckLink audio starts crackling and eventually stops completely.

Nothing has been installed or updated, as these machines do not have internet access.

When this happens, my current workaround is to access the affected machine, terminate the CasparCG process using the kill command, and restart CasparCG. The audio then works correctly again for a while.

I cannot find any errors in the CasparCG logs, and there is no indication of a loss of the reference signal.

I really need help with this issue because, as mentioned, these machines are running in production 24/7.

I am not sure whether it would be worth installing a different DeckLink driver version. I have read that version 14 may be a better option or should I upgrade to a newer version?

I really need help. If anyone has experienced this issue or has any suggestions on how to fix it, I would greatly appreciate it.

When this issue occurs, I open the DIAG window in CasparCG. The audio graph shows activity as if audio were playing, but there is no audio output from the DeckLink card.

@Julusian , could you help me with this?

Thank you, everyone.

To me that sounds like a Decklink card, that is becoming old and rusty. Would it be possible to replace one of these cards and see, it that solves it? In my opinion it must be a hardware issue, as it looks like you did not change anything on the software side.

Hello Didi,

I have another card available as a replacement. It has seen very little use.

Regarding the driver, which version would you recommend for CasparCG 2.4.3?

Thank you for your quick response.

I have no idea, as I still run 2.3 most of the time. - But I would only change the card (if it works with the version 15 drivers) because I would never change two thinigs at once, when trying to find a problem. You would end up not knowing what made it better (or worse) by donig this.

Was there a particular set of files you started playing when the problem started? It may be possible that some malformed audio packets stop delivery of audio or something. What changed between when it was working and when it stopped? Is there a particular file or template that plays when it stops working?

Good morning, everyone,

The next time this happens, I’ll start checking for any audio patterns that might be causing the issue.

Thank you very much for your help.
